Experience on Oculus Rift

This post is about my very first experience on the notable hardware, the Oculus Rift during the Hobbycon 2013 few weeks ago. It took me quite a while to write this post due to some laziness and something going on.

Oculus Rift, as we all know it, is a Virtual Reality (VR) head mounted display. What does that mean? It means that you'll immerse yourselves in the game environment. In simple words, you're going into the game. I was able to experience myself how the Oculus Rift performs and what it feels like.

Sabah Hobbycon 2013

My very first time visit to the Hobbycon 2013 at Likas Sports Complex, Sabah, Malaysia with an entry fee of RM15 for one day. Going along with my friend who are very excited as this was also his very first time as I do. Just an ordinary guy walking around with my friend with my Samsung Galaxy Note 1 (GT-N7000) as my camera, there are a lot of cosplayer wandering around and most of them bought the VIP pass for RM80 for 2 days pass with several goodies with them.

[How-To] Use Composer on windows with WAMP

I successfully downloaded and installed some of the php packages and most of the php packages are available to download via Composer. What is a Composer you might ask? Well, this program is actually like a library for you to download a specific php based API or standalone packages that can be used in conjunction with php. Installing Composer is quite easy especially for windows user since there are installer executable provided that will configure Composer automatically, here is the link. Simply put, it is more like the linux's "apt-get...." command but this one is for php.

CISS on Canon Pixma IP2770 update 1

The main reason of this update is due to the fixture of the ink hose. Often, the hose would obstruct not only the print head from moving left to right, also in some cases would block the path for the paper (the black area) and thus making the paper slightly lifted and when print head moves, it hits the edge of the lifted part of the paper, destroying it and also you would get a carriage error.

[HOW] Finding Drivers For Unknown Device

We all often stumble upon an "Unknown Device detected" notification popped up when we plugged a device and then windows couldn't find any suitable drivers and when we searched through the internet, it's a painstakingly long process to find it for example the name of the chip or something, the image search and keyword search through Google and the chances of hitting a results is about 20% most of the times.

This Blog post however, is quite useful, it is to go find the vendor and device id through the device manager and search them online. There's a database of drivers that you only had to key in either device id or vendor id and search them based on the id you've entered. Here's the procedure, quite the same as the blog post by the way:

  1. Open device manager (Computer>Right Click>Manage>Device Manager).
  2. Find any devices that have the yellow exclamation mark.
  3. Open properties of that device (Right Click>Properties)
  4. Click on the Details tab.
  5. On the Property list, go to Device Instance Path.
  6. You should be looking at something like this.
    1. PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_382D17AA&REV_05\4&1697FF41&0&34F0
  7. Red number represents the vendor id while green is the device id of that particular device.
  8. Go to PCI Database and key in either by vendor or device id.
  9. Once there's a list of matches found, search them through the list and match both vendor and device id.
  10. Click on the link inside the table of the device to be redirected to the respective driver's download page.
Credit to www.lostintechnology.com and particularly Ashish Mundhra for this helpful post.

P.S, Some of the devices listed in the Device Manager not proven to work with this method, however, it doesn't mean that it's not worth to give it a try though.

CISS on Canon Pixma IP2770

I made several research about using the CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) refill ink and I found out that you can't mix them with other brand recklessly. I had to replace the cartridge on my printer; Canon Pixma IP2770, which is famous for their owner to convert into external tank support. The good thing about this is; you don't have to keep buying the expensive cartridge if the existing one has been depleted, and one of the most cheapest printing  you got.

Corrupted BIOS on Acer Aspire 4820TG/5820TG Workaround

A very frustrating thing indeed when a computer had a failed or corrupted BIOS and couldn't even boot into the OS, I had this problem last night and I got it fixed with the help of a friend's laptop to burn the BIOS firmware into the CD. This problem I suspect occurred on a v1.25 BIOS for this model, I frequently getting a blue screen error this week and it is very hard to solve a blue screen error with multiple error codes that keeps on changing while you tried to find the info in the internet, all they say is to keep your driver updated (true) but what if the driver has already been the latest updates especially the GPU? My case here I assume would be the GPU causing the blue screen error and renders my laptop (4820TG) slightly unusable with all these blue screens going on.

Galaxy Note S-Pen issues

This is just an info for most Galaxy Note owners out there though, regarding the S-Pen, it seems like the S-Pen has its own lifespan I guess and mine just ended, at least still usable but not the button anymore. In some cases, other owner reported that when they are using it to draw something, especially testing it on the memo/s-note, the lines that you draw will not be a continuous lines, instead it is like a line that you erased the middle part of it like in the video example below. Mine however, isn't something like in the video, it is still okay despite the fact that the button to do extra command is broken and I do able to hear the click sound.

For example when I want to do the lasso capture function, only available after ICS updates, the lasso often breaks midway and renders you unable to carry that operation at all. This shows that the S-Pen need to be replaced and to add more reason to replace it, try your friend's S-Pen, any S-Pen should work just fine on any Galaxy Note series (I think) and try the operation that you wanted to do or any other operation as well.

For some reason, I thought it had something to do with the ROM, or custom ROM, but it has been proven that this is not the case, just the lifespan of the S-Pen has ended I guess.

I don't have to replace mine yet since I only use it to play with Griddlers Plus, a good nonogram app that I ever found although lacks certain important feature.

Unstable Win7 File Transfer Over Ethernet (Media Sharing)

Lately I had a problem when opening a video from my laptop over the shared folder and it just stopped midway through while opening the video. The good thing about having file sharing is, to reduce the steps of transferring files from another machine to another one by up to 3 steps, by just transferring them directly through network without using any thumbdrives and eventually, the file will just rot in the thumbdrive where you forgot to delete them

Daily Wifi Timer

This is what I found last week when I go into the wifi 'Advanced' settings, the wifi toggle schedules. There is no third party apps needed for this, just android itself. Minimum android version should be 4.1.x, Jelly Bean that is, and this scheduler should helps you in terms of saving more battery life when you're sleeping, or when you off to work daily but the scheduler still missing some key features, specific day setting.

Specific day setting meant here is, the user able to tick which day to enable the scheduler rather than doing it daily for example setting it up for working days, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, this could be great though, but the current default scheduler only has time setting and there's no day ticker and that means non-working days also will be included.

Win 7 Freezes When Upload on Folder Sharing

I had this problem several times when uploading from either my laptop or desktop. The problem is, when you upload a file to either one of these machine, the file transfer window suddenly stopped responding or freezes and no way to close the copy/move operation window except force shutdown the machine or reset button.

However, I just tried the method found in this forum, and it worked. to use the fix, RUN>CMD and type in the commands below or paste them.
  • netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
  • netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled
Tested it and it worked and no freezes.

Change Default Font Through Registry for Online Game

I've been using Win XP for years and I really do love it due to its flexibilities over Win 7 especially its windows explorer behavior that isn't too much of a headache when an advanced user like me using it. I've been playing online game as well and the downside of the game is it uses the default font called Arial families and this post is all about changing them especially the font style on the game and possibly on other online games as well.

Possible Fixes for RocketROM Reloaded V1

RRRv1 is a great ROM and I've never used any other ROM besides stock and RocketROM series before. The latest development going around right before the released RRRv1 is to have Note 2's s-apps included on our N7000.

RocketROM Reloaded v1 XXLSZ

Eybee is back with his new RocketROM Reloaded (RRR) and this time, optimized for battery and performance, as well as based on the official Jelly Bean ROM by Samsung, XXLSZ. You all know I wouldn't post a screenshot as well especially the benchmark scores and the battery performance screenshots. Although the time I wrote this posts is quite late, the RRRv1 was released in 13th April 2013 and of course, to see how this ROM performs before writing any posts.

Facebook Chat Head

Some of you might be wondering, does Facebook Head Chats only on Facebook Home? The answer is no, of course. I just updated my Facebook Messenger on my phone, and just got the new Chat Head feature in the new update. Not much to say though but it does its own issues especially on Galaxy Note series (I think) and other application integrated with Facebook. I've been using Digsby application for around 6 years and the support from developer team has dropped leaving the users completely in dark ages with many bugs. What's the relationship? Well, Digsby has been known for its multi-IM support and very simple to use, very clean UI as well.

Galaxy Note Battery (GT-N7000)

I just bought a new original battery for my Galaxy Note, priced at RM139 which costs me a lot. There are several other batteries with different pricing available out there from RM30 to RM120 but beware, these could be a fake batteries. Fake batteries won't last long like the originals and lesser capacities as well. Luckily, I'm able to recall the sole distributor for Samsung accessories called Sunweu or Sun-U for short.

[Fix] Waze Force Close on GT-N7000 Jelly Bean

Since the day I got my hands on the leaked Jelly Bean ROM; LS series, Waze kept on force close (FC) on my phone and what I did was leave the app in my phone untouched. Even though there is a new update available for Waze, the app still FC.

After I flashed the new official Jelly Bean from Samsung, the app still FC on me and I reinstalled the app by uninstalling it beforehand, launched it, agree the EULA and voila, the app is running perfect again without FC. This information probably old but I decided to share about this thing anyway though hoping someone needed help would found the answer. Waze is a good app.

[Review][ROM] GT-N7000 Official XXLSZ

A few days ago I just got my hands on this LSZ rom, deodexed, pre-rooted by eybee and flashed it to my phone. The overall looks are just the same as LSA though, not much changes except it is the official firmware released by Samsung themselves rather than a leak. There are several other ROMs before LSZ; LSD, LM5 and so on, but the most stable was the LSA so far and it's like just a minor bug fixes only.

Sarf's android apps picks

Today, I will be showing you the list of apps that I would recommend for Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000. The links in bold text are ROOT recommended. You can read what those apps does by simply going to their respective links I've provided.
